// Attilio Tono

Sound: Alex Pastore

Time speaks from Attilio Tono’s sculptures and drawings. The natural materials he uses sharpen our senses for the perception of shapes, colours, smells and touch - for the beauty of being in the chaos of becoming.
Beeswax meets black marble, wine meets plaster, and oil paper. The spectator can immediately relate to the pieces. Yet the potential of constant renewal lies in the materials’ interaction within his sculptures. Attilio Tono’s works grow out of an interplay of powerful forces and qualities. The plaster sculpture appears as storage and image medium alike, wine growing shapes within and on its surface. Sculpture and drawing merge into each other. Attilio Tono’s art emanates from time. It is continuously shaped with time elapsing. We can participate in the process of transformation and let ourselves be surprised by it.
Historical, symbolic and formal connections become evident, particularly in the direct combination and confrontation of the massive marble and the flexible beeswax. The symbolism and historical use of those natural materials transcend time. Between the poles of illusion, spirituality, history, actuality and materiality an interplay of absence and presence, of interruption and continuity, of proximity and distance is created. In reduced minimalist style Attilio Tono lifts his sculptures and drawings into the infinite width of material disentanglement in time, staying firmly grounded in chaos.
